You guys!! WE ARE GOING TO TULUM and we are SO EXCITED for 12 of you to come with us! Join Sarah Fennel, Founder and CEO of Foodtography School and Broma Bakery along with the Foodtography School team at the Papaya Playa Project in Tulum for an all-inclusive 4-day, 3 night retreat!
We will be staying on a stunning resort, spending our days immersed in food styling, photography, and growing together as creatives.
This workshop is designed for photographers who understand the basics of food photography and are looking to expand their skill set. We strongly recommend prior knowledge of how to shoot on manual with a DSLR camera. Throughout the workshop, we’ll engage in open conversations where we will share our career goals and cultivate a strong and welcoming community of creatives. We so look forward to getting to know each and every person who joins us for this workshop. Primary topics will include:
How do you create a well-composed food image? We’ll discuss basic compositional principles, as well as more complex tips and tricks for nailing the perfect food shot.
We’ll put together beautifully curated food stories, demonstrate the why behind our styling choices, and tease out the emotional connection between viewer and food.
The Human Element
Incorporating the human element into our photography is one of the best ways people can connect to our food photographs. We'll play around with hands in frame, talk about how to add the human element to photographs, and techniques for directing people in your shot.
Photographing in restaurants poses an entirely unique set of challenges for food photographers, so one day we'll venture offsite to photograph at some of the best restaurants Tulum has to offer. Together we'll style a tablescape, photograph it, then eat all of the delicious food!
Each photographer will have the ability to meet with me 1:1 to discuss their individual businesses and goals. We'll talk through things specific to your business and you'll have the opportunity to ask me any question you'd like :)

We recommend flying into the Cancun Airport (CUN)
In terms of transportation, our hotel has a ride share option from the Cancun airport. We are more than happy to coordinate this with the hotel for on your behalf. You would be responsible for payment.
We suggest waiting to coordinate transportation until we know when all students are flying in. This way, you could come in on the same bus with other students flying in around the same time as you. This would also cut down on the cost of transportation (around $100 USD)!
We recommend flying in the morning of the 10th and the afternoon of the 13th. Check in is at 3pm on the 10th and check out is 12pm on the 13th.
